I’m a big fan of self-awareness as it allows me to make better choices and live a more informed life. I’ve worked with clients to develop their own awareness of their emotions, thoughts, and actions. This is a great method for people to begin to learn how to make better decisions.
At the end of the day, the only real way to determine whether or not you have self-awareness is to ask yourself “am I aware of every detail of my thoughts and actions?” You can’t stop every thought, and you can’t stop every action. But you can learn to do what you enjoy, and you can even learn to do it better.
This is all good, but it doesn’t actually teach you how to stop your own thoughts, which is a key part of self-awareness. It may teach you to know when you’re about to start a train of thought, but it doesn’t teach you how to stop it.
What self-awareness actually teaches you is that you can keep going. So when you think something you do, consciously or unconsciously, it doesn’t mean you’re going to do it. What you do is what you do, and that is what you can control. So while you can’t control your thoughts, you can control your actions.
This is where self-awareness kicks in. We all have a stream of thoughts we are unaware of. We can think about our day, our food, and how we feel. We can think about our children, our job, or our favorite movie. At times we all think about the same thing at the same time. That’s because we are unaware of this stream of thoughts.
We are unaware of our thoughts because we are unaware of the stream of thoughts, which is why it is important to practice self-awareness. Self-awareness is important because it allows you to control your thoughts and actions.
Self-awareness is important because the fact is that most of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car. On the contrary, those things are the best way to control our lives.
There is a huge difference between “autopilot” and “automation.” Automation is when you don’t have to think about something, so long as you don’t have to make a decision about it. Autopilot is when you have to think about something before you can act.
That’s why we should always focus on what we want to do, rather than what we think we should do. But there is a big difference between good habits and bad habits. Automation (good habits) will allow you to do things well, but it will also allow you to do the things you want to do so well that you wont even have to think about it. There are some bad habits that are simply just bad habits.
Autopilot can be good, and bad habits can be good. The difference is in how you react to your bad habits. A bad habit that you have is something you will take notice of, and will pay attention to. A good habit that you have is something that you will ignore.
